Creative residency initiated by Diaphane photographie and Pays de Thiérache 2023-2024.
Over the course of a year, I portrayed the Thiérache region of the Aisne. Over the course of the seasons, I met local people and farmers, wanting to bear witness to the harshness of their profession. I travelled the roads, following local events and agricultural activity. This series interweaves documentary and intimacy on a forgotten territory. Because it's a mute land, a corner of our country unknown to its own people, just two hours from Paris.
In Thiérache, local shops are closing, election results are in favor of the extreme right and farmers are going into debt. Yet here, as elsewhere, people live, work, hunt, march on July 14th and get involved in village life, perpetuating the rituals of rural France.
In this series, which reconnects me with my youth, I present a tender and raw picture of this isolated region, without being scabrous or pathetic. I express a very tangible truth that newspapers and statistics end up rendering ethereal and legendary.
